#aaaaugh this is so totally my headcanon now #meg and ruby were tight but it all went to hell when ruby went on her covert supersecret sam mission for lilith#meg values loyalty and she saw ruby as committing the gravest treachery #and when ruby and meg ran into each other in s4 ruby couldn’t explain anything#ruby misses meg and can’t say anything #meg misses ruby and feels betrayed#they’re both too principled to give each other any leeway #the very thing that drew them together is now the thing that keeps them apart #and it’s only after ruby dies and lucifer rises that meg understands (via siterlas)
but imagine how Jo would’ve gradually slotted into place with the Cas and the Winchesters, had she lived: how, as she aged and settled into her own skin and became comfortable and good at channeling her emotions, their rapport would’ve evolved as well
that hero worship she had for Dean might’ve settled down with her — or maybe it wouldn’t have — but she would’ve been even better at holding her own against him; she would’ve learned his tells and his mannerisms and she wouldn’t have taken any of his bullshit, would’ve kept him in line without smothering him and shoving him back in that tight shell of emotional shutdown
she’d learn to get comfortable with Sam again, after the rough stalls and starts they had — Sam would’ve valued her independence so much, and he would’ve been a little in love with her intelligence and her need to prove herself and the way she wanted to do it all for herself, because he understood that just about better than anyone
and I bet she would’ve gotten Cas’s sense of humor, his irony and dry wit and general love for fucking people around by playing naive, and Cas would’ve played it up around her just to see the way she lit up and grinned and gave it right back to him while Sam and Dean just sort of sat back and watched them, identical, bemused smiles on their faces
god, she just had so much potential to evolve as a character and she would’ve been so good for team free will
